JF, actually I approve of both columns for the following reasons:

a) I've always believed in government spending programs for infrastructure, more so than entitlement programs that get voters hooked on the government teat.

b) Both columns point out the futility of stimulus packages, or at least the ones being pursued by the current bozos in Congress.

Hence I agree with Brooks, but Krugman doesn't go into any specifics regarding his "major fiscal stimulus." Maybe he believes in renewable energy projects. That would also be nice, but only if much of the money goes into research and basic infrastructure for the future, not tax breaks for yesterday's technologies.
