I looked this up recently, and found that Norway's GDP per capita is about twice ours.

When the oil price was near its peak Norway's currency may briefly have jumped up high enough to make that possible in terms of nominal currency units at the official exchange rate.

But it never was even close to being true in terms of what Norwegians can actually buy in their country, compared to what Americans can buy in theirs.
