I doubt it will be "different this time". The length of the bust and/or trough section of the cycle will probably take more time but the nature of the cycle shouldn't change. (maybe I'm splitting hairs with this?)

The bust section of the cycle in 2001/2003 was lengthy and difficult for the SCE companies. Will this bust cycle be worse? Maybe so.

If the sector continues to push out spending, no matter how severe the macro environment gets, at some point we will see demand improve. The are plenty of questions to go along with this, who will survive, who will sell out, who will drop the ball and become irrelevant, who will innovate and outperform their peers, who will be written off prematurely-only to surprise down the road, etc....
