Mark, call me crazy and erased, but look at NTAP.
This company, netapp.com Makes some killer file servers. Do you know any company that needs a high availablility, high throughput file server that has clients on both the Unix and Windows side? Chances are, they'll be buying a netapp machine within a year or two. It uses RAID 4 (That's right, 4), with a unique file system. They have their own micro-kernal running on a 486 machine, and it kicks tail feathers. Room to grow? Yes. The 486 definitely leaves performance gains in the future, although the bottleneck will show up elsewhere long before that is tapped out. Oh yeah, supports NFS, WINS, and HTTP. Has a built in web server for configuring.
Now, this stock is a little pricey for what you get, but that doesn't seem to be much of a problem with this thread (cluck).
Humbly retreating now into obscurity, TLC
BTW - Have you ever had frog legs? They do NOT taste like chicken. |
