The Halloween tradition here is that the youngest do their candy bag filling bit early in the evening. They're done now--it's after 8 here.

But beginning around 9 we get the older kids who actually take the "trick" part in "trick or treat" seriously. That's when the car is covered with shaving lotion or, sometimes, worse. That's when it's wise to have all the lights off in the house.

Unfortunately, we live almost right on the street. And not far from the corner of a main thoroughfare.
