b) I don't think any citizen should have to be "vetted" before he or she can actively participate in politics. It's one thing to assassinate the character of a politician, but it's yet another to do the same toward a regular citizen.

I disagree. I would not want someone to tell me their husband is suffering from cancer and then it turns out he isn't. Who wants to deal with that kind of duplicity?
