I sure hope so... it would do a lot of good for the country. But came across this the other day:

What the presidents said about energy

I think Obama is more likely to follow through for several reasons:

1. we just saw how high crude oil can spike and the toll it can take on the American economy.

2. We are finally getting that its a finite commodity and how much of American wealth is transferred to the Mideast every year to pay for oil. In addition some of us are getting how much the turmoil in which we are embroiled in the ME is due to our need for oil.

3. his jobs program is tied to alternative energy

4. his constituency is very pro alternative energy.

5. he's actually talking of setting up an energy czar.

6. the Republicans will be stupid to fight him on this issue...of course that may not stop them....think of this as a half reason.

7.The American car companies have seen the writing on the wall.......their very existence depends on them becoming more fuel efficient.

8. Even under Bush, alternative means of transportation to the car have continued to grow. For an example, LA was one of the most car dependent cities in the country as late as the early '90s. Its now ranks up there with Chicago and NYC in terms of mass transit. It has built 5 lite rail lines, a subway, several bus express lanes and several commuter train spurs. Its possible to live in LA without a car now. And that kind of non car growth is being echoed in places as disparate as Dallas, MPLS, Seattle, San Diego......to name a few.
