Richard Florida, the American urban studies theorist now living in Canada (on the University of Toronto faculty) is concerned about the right-wing backlash that he predicts will follow an Obama win. A terrific piece. That argument is part of my glass half empty thesis; though Florida is arguing for something much more empty. Not only is that resentment out there but if we drop into a seriously long recession or worse, that gets much worse. And the language the McCain campaign used in this election only made the matter worse.
