The Foxhound wouldn't cost me anything. The shep/lab mix I mentioned earlier was the pick of the litter. The Humane Society had just made them available and I was first to get there.

I walk up to the cage they're in, a few came up to the bars, a little timid. There was one who didn't notice me at first, he was busy dragging a huge metal bowl full of water across the floor. Being only 7 or 8 weeks old, it was a major undertaking, but he was determined. When he noticed me he came bounding over, crashing into the bars all happy. I didn't even think about, I knew he was the one.

I've had a lot of dogs since then, he was the only one I got to pick. In every other instance they came to me. :)
