Didn't hear you squawking when Bushco and the Republicans were running the country into the ground...
The problem, of course, is your premise that somehow "Republicans" ran the country into the ground. This is simply not a supportable position. The mortgage crisis was created by Democrats. The wars were supported by both the Democrats and the Republicans based on the intelligence that was available. It was supported by both Bill and Hillary Clinton, and frankly, everyone except Obama. Now, you and I can disagree on whether we should have gone to war, but what we cannot disagree about is that the country has been safe from terrorist attack since September 11, 2001.
So, what exactly, do you mean by the Republicans "running the country into the ground"? While Obama was the beneficiary of the mortgage crisis (he got what he hoped for, according to Candy Crowley, and I believe she's right) -- the fact remains that had the Dems not insisted on providing loans to people who weren't qualified to receive them, we would not have been in the economic mess.
This leaves open the question of why I wouldn't have opposed the Republican control of government BEFORE the mortgage crisis developed. The answer is that Republicans can generally be trusted. Not all of them, but for the most part, they at least ATTEMPT to campaign honestly and deliver on promises. Obama is not campaigning honestly, and without some restrictions imposed by Congress, he will obviously take the country to a place it doesn't want to go. He has lied about his intentions since the day the primary was won.
There is also the issue of Obama's incompetence. He has never held a substantial job that would qualify him for the office. As a campaigner, he's the best I've seen -- even better than Clinton. But he isn't qualified to hold the office of the presidency. It is the world's biggest crapshoot. And I don't believe we ought to be playing dice with the nation's future. |
