Allen,

Re: Digital Camera's

Point of clarification. Not all digital cameras suck, just the cheap ones. In fact, the last time we took our toddler to a professional studio, all they used were digital cameras. Of course these cameras (every bit as good as film cameras to the human eye) are in the $5000+ range. The point is, however, that the technology is here and the prices are dropping at a very rapid rate. The Olympus 500 and 600 (to be released this month) produce jaw dropping images. They will be on the street for about $800 and $1200 repsectively. The Olympus 600 is absolutely incredible with true (i.e. not interpolated) 1280x1024 resolution. The digital cameras that suck are the ones with true resolutions less than 1024x768. The price point on 1024x768 cameras continues to drop sharply. Again, most of these good consumer digital cameras are still pricey for most people but you know the trend of prices in this industry. The cheaper digital cameras that now selling for $200 were selling for $600-800 less that a year ago.

Digital photograhy is going to be HUGE in the coming years. That's why all the major camera manufacturers are getting behind it. No one wants to be left out. That's also why all the printer manufacturers are developing better and better inkjet printers.

Rockhead's failure to recognize digital photography as a tremendous opportunity and growth area is yet another example of his total lack of vision when in comes to the tech market.

BTW, I stand corrected with respect to Smartmedia. The caddy I saw advertised for Smartmedia was for a PCMCIA adapter not 3.5" drive. However, we both have heard that a 3.5" in solution is in the cards.

Good luck and go IOM,

FF
