The funny thing about absurd non-issue distractions like the birth certificate is that they entrance McCain's supporters to the point of blinding them to the issues that are working against their own candidate, and have a proven zero-level of traction with the swing voters that the McCain crowd believes will be won over by them. Basically, they are guns that blow up in your hands when they are fired in this election. Hence McCain's rise in unfavorables since August from 34% to 42%. The 8% he lost could well be the margin in this election.
