That's why I think Palin could be nominated in 2012 if the activist base keeps hold of the party, and flame out like Mondale in 1984. The operating philosophy will be if only we had been negative enough and rigid enough, Obama would have fallen apart under fire. They can't believe the guy could be poised and balanced and a smarter politician than that. That's why this election, which McCain made a referendum on Obama's acceptability, is going like it is.
