I own a real estate brokerage firm and a real estate appraisal firm. Currently, I download the entire multiple listing service to my pc's, including laptops and it is available to my agents and their clients. The MLS uses digital cameras-a switch they made about a year ago. The biggest benefit is that the photos are on the MLS system in a day, versus a couple days that it used to take for the film to be processed and then scanned into the system. The photos are not quite the quality of the old ones, but they are decent enough.
Our appraisal firm is poised and ready to adopt digital and can't wait! Waiting on the technology to be a bit better and cheaper. We foresee tossing our Minolta's in the trash in the near future. The resolution/costs don't make it feasible quite yet. A great feature we look forward to is the ability to electronically send reports all over the country, with the photos intact. Several major companies are already doing so.
