Considering the flexibility and the portability of 401Ks, it would be foolish, I think, to revert back to the old defined benefit approach. I don't disagree with that. Just pointing out that a lot of people would rather have less and have it be guaranteed. (Not to mention equal and idiot-proof, Democratic favorites.)
