My sense is that the market has reached the conclusion over the past two weeks that xDSL is dead meat vs. high-speed cable. I don't necessarlily agree (yet), but the signs are not good. The RBOCs simply can't lose the protected, regulated, utility mentality. Eating your young is the only way to go in today's tech world, but they (RBOCs) can't seem to see it. So what if xDSL cannibalizes T-1: better keeping the business in house at higher volumes (albeit lower prices) than losing the business entirely to a competitor's high speed offering.
