She probably was! Just like I came from a typical white American family in a typical white suburban middle class neighborhood and attended typical white suburban schools. But at a young age in the '60s I ran away to Greenwich Village with three typical white American kids. We were driving in a 1966 yellow Super Sports Chevy, with a red surfboard tied on the top. It was here and then that I pretty much saw typical black folk living in a typical urban black environment. As typical as I was, then I was in a strange land. Admittedly, we did draw lots of looks as we drove through Harlem to the Village. Once we got there ... well, that's a whole 'nother story--lol! But, basically, I saw whole lots of once-typical white people behaving in an extraordinarily untypical way. I haven't been typical since--lol! How 'bout yourself?
