Evangelicals always are "hypocrites" because they are human like everybody else and are not angels.

No, they are perceived as hypocrites [though of course not all are] because they are often holier than thou yet fail in their 'holiness.'

But because they have money, are extremely well organized and can control large blocks of votes, the GOP has been forced to cater to them. I think it will be disastrous for the party in the long term. For that reason, I see a GOP renewal after the elections, a realization that it has to go to center a bit more if it wishes to be successful in the future. Of course, it also has to purge itself of the penchant for excessive spending, crony capitalism and corporate socialism for which W will be remembered.

I think we are both partially correct about Mitt Romney, there was religious bias and he did not do a good job of connecting. A bit of a white-bread technocrat.
