"It is generally accepted by biblical scholars and theologians that it is indeed the anti-Christ "

Not really. Although, I suppose it depends on who you accept as a scholar or a theologian. I was raised Lutheran. And Martin Luther was one of many who don't accept the book of Revelation at all. He considered it to be offensive. Thomas Jefferson apparently believed the same, he left it out of his version of the Bible. Even John Calvin was troubled by it.

As a result, there is not a single school of thought on the book. There isn't even a consensus on things like the Mark of the Beast. Is it 666 or 616? Is the book prophecy of events that were fulfilled in the 1st century, or is is prophecy of things yet to come? Or does it just provide insight into the Eucharist as practiced in the 1st century?

Now, I will grant you that the fundies consider it to be pretty straight forward. But, they aren't the only biblical scholars and/or theologians.

The snopes site just took one of the more milder interpretations of the book. Depending on the translation, it isn't clear if it talks about one or more beasts. King James seems to indicate it is all the same beast. Some of the later translations that source the oldest texts, indicate it is more than one.
