[ DITR hit. AKRN, 3 3/4 ask ]

I recognized this one from the picks of John Metcalf, a long-time biotech freak and a specialist in comparable valuations.

From John's notes.......

***************************************************
They make generic opthalmics. Acquired some companies and some products (from Jenssen, Beckton-Dickinson), consolidated operations, and fixed up their balance sheet. Big news is that they are finally selling Timolol, a generic Timoptic (Merck's several hundred million dollar opthalmic).

They have Piroxicam in Phase III's (started in August). It's an opthalimic NSAID, particularly used in cataract surgery. They got this one royalty-free from Pfizer as part of the deal givingt Pfizer marketing rights to Ak-CON-A (Ocuhist).

Numbers:

Market cap = $63mm
Annualized sales (trailing) = $40.8 mm
Annualized net profit (trailing) = $3 mm
Gross margin (trailing) = 48%

PSR = 1.54
P/E = 21

The kicker is that these numbers are masked by special charges for
relocation and acquisitions, and that Timolol just came on line in the last quarter.
*****************************************************

This company appears to have solid prospects and the price has been strong since the last quarterly report. The next report is due soon. Looks like the next few quarters could see a rapid ramp-up in revenues.
