I know everyone is interested, naturally, in the election but there is a news item I should mention: the Mexican top security official and the head of the drug war were killed when their jet crashed in Mexico City. bloomberg.com Probably not an accident. The official, the Secretary of Government, is the no. 2 man in Mexican government. A likely victim of the drug wars. A very high ranking drug lord was captured a few days ago. It's getting wild down there. I think more police and army guys die in Mexico now than we are losing in Iraq. csmonitor.com It's nightmarish: news.com.au The possibility that the government might topple cannot be discounted. All just a few miles away, under our noses.
