No doubt the hardcore will circle the wagons and stay in the closed loop world where anything outside is an Evil Other. That is inevitable.

The interesting thing is who emerges to try to lead the party now, and which wing they are from. Someone has to get their act together for the 2010 midterms, and a legislative strategy to work with or try to obstruct Obama's agenda.

That would suggest the lead goes to McConnell and Boehner. But I don't think they have the gravitas to swing the party very far.

The governors - Palin, Pawlenty, Jindal - don't have a clear platform to lead from.

Gonna get very messy.
