<<<But what's not open for debate, after tonight, is the sheer futility of trying to build a coalition from the center out. Because the center won't stand still for any candidate.>>>

The center is made up of strange characters. They don't know right from wrong. They don't know what they want. They just get in the way. I mean where do they stand on torture, the death penalty, the war, fairness in health care, fairness in general, and between what is right and what is wrong?

Are they in favor of torturing people but not killing them? I mean are they going to compromise between what is right and what is wrong?

They are however a voting block. Enough of a force to be reckoned with.

Barack Obama however is not one of them. He was/is sufficiently pragmatic not to have offended them and perhaps even somehow to have won them over.

This does not, at all, mean that I think Barack will govern with a radical agenda. Barack is not a radical person. He is steady and rock solid - but above all - he knows right from wrong.

Barack will govern by being himself and the center will just go along with him. They don't know what they want anyhow.
