I think the next 4 years were going to be tough years regardless of who won. There were some good things that came out of this race even if a lot of Obama's ideas don't match my belief structure.

1) He didn't get a filibuster-proof majority

2) Voter turnout was huge! I've read that it was the best turnout in 40-50 years. Even though the votes didn't fall the way I'd like I think it's great to see more participation.

3) A candidate was elected (albeit not the one I voted for) without significant voting issues that required a recount. A clear majority spoke and now we're going to find out what Obama is made of.

I've said for a long time (probably more than a year) that, IMO, the next President will be a 1 term President. There are just too many issues to expect to see significant, positive change in 4 years.. A lot of what we're seeing reminds me of the Carter years and that's my basis for believing last nights "winner" will become a sacrificial lamb. Don't get me wrong - I don't want Obama to be an unsuccessful President. Things are so pressing that there will be no honeymoon period for him - we simply can't afford 4 years of missteps and rudderless leadership. Another thing we can't afford and don't want is an assassination. I've been concerned about this very thing (particularly if Obama won). The last thing we need is for the KKK or some other whacko group to pull a stunt that would result in riots like we've never seen. The world and our country didn't end last night - it just took a turn that's going to make the next 4 years very interesting.
