McCain and his team controlled Palin all the way.

He had opportunities to turn this around on the economy, but insisted on sticking with the populist approach of "bad Wall Street." While there was plenty of blame to go around, the Democrats were front and center for the Freddie/Fannie debacle and Obama himself had a piece of that.

McCain just refused to really take off the gloves. Palin had little to do with it.
