John, My reaction to the job posting for a Keepered Technology Marketing Manager was a little more optimistic. After reading Ampex's most recent 10Q, I came away wondering whether or not KP would become a commercail reality. What I mean is, there were so many cautionary statements made about KP (which of course is fairly typical in an SEC filing), that it was impossible to tell how the company really felt about the prospects for KP.
To me, the job post says that the company is confident that there will be a market for keepering technology, and that they need someone with the technical knowledge, and market savvy, to take this to the extremely large market that the disk drive manufacturers are in. They have gone through lengthy testing that has given them confidence that keepering works, they have evaluated the impact future disk drive technologies may have on keepering (IBM's MR heads). I doubt they would continue to pursue this business if no one was interested in incorporating the technology in their products. So, to me, the job post is another sign that Ampex is getting closer to bringing KP to the market.
