Karen -

I could write an article defining "fascist" in some neutral way, and apply the term the way I wanted to. I don't think authors are entitled to make up their own definitions. Admittedly, "Rovian" is not a term that has been in common usage for as long a time as "fascist." But I think I still have a point.

I have a problem with whitewashing the term Rovian. As for the strategy of solidifying the base, expanding it with efforts to increase turnout, and appealing to the center without compromising more than you have to, that just seems to be common sense, and could describe pretty much any successful campaign. I wouldn't give Rove the credit for coming up with those ideas.
