The author completely ignored two very important aspects of what I would call Rovian politics. One, the use of "wedge issues" to divide the electorate. Two, the demonization of your opponents, without any regard for decency.

Et tu? I understand that all things Rove are stuck in people's craw. Perhaps the brain is is not sufficiently insulated from the craw.

If you were to read the article again and substitute a different label for the "Rovian" one, some label without the baggage, you would see his point. Had he called his two models, say, "base-to-center" and "great untapped center" rather than "Rovian" and "Beltway Pundit," you would have appreciated the insight. The article's simple point was that the base-to-center strategy was used effectively by Obama. Ironically, that strategy was advocated by Rove.
