Started a small position in Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. (AMLN)a biopharmaceutical company that is in the discovery, development, and commercialization of medicines for diabetes and obesity. The stock is selling at a seven year low due to a setback in one of their phase III trials for their diabetes drug exenatide LAR.

Exenatide LAR, which would be taken once-weekly, is poised to be the next version of Byetta (containing a component lizard spit to help treat type 2 diabetes) which is taken twice daily.

The FDA notice would delay the release of Exenatide but not terminate the drug.

For a BioTech company, the stock is really cheap. The company has enough cash to finish the trial and obtain the FDA approval.

It seems like the risk/reward is good especially once an approval is obtained, LLY will be their partner to market the drug.

Some tax loss sells include

These sells were some higher priced shares that I may revisit in 31 days. I have been buying more EI DuPont de Nemours & Co. (DD) at current levels as I like their exposure in the solar business. I gave up on AMAT and moved the proceeds to DD. It pays a higher dividend and can be considered an equivalent solar play.
