=== ".....should republicans continue to be dominated by the philosophies of Fundamentalist Christians." ===

I am a moderate Republican who believes in choice, stem cell research, animal rights, gay rights, separation of church and state, etc.

The Republican Party let me down. While I support our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, I now feel that going into Iraq was wrong. It disturbed the balance of power in the Middle East and has allowed Iran to become much more powerful, and much more of a threat to the free world. The US is now bogged down in Iraq, without any control over the government of Iraq. That means that, any time we leave, the government of Iraq can fall into the hands of dangerous Islamist radicals. There is no good way to get out of our military babysitting Iraq and protecting Iraq from crazed Islamists. UGH!

The Republican Party refused to compromise on issues like stem-cell research. Most people think that stem cell research will lead to cures for disabling and crippling diseases. I know that good people are pro-life and oppose abortion, but by not being able to compromise, at all, NOT ONE INCH, on the abortion/stem cell/birth control issues, the Republican Party has left the door wide open to a radical, socialist government, dominated by the Democrat Party. Get ready for a bunch of new pro-Choice laws. There will probably be abortion mills on every corner. I wouldn't be surprised to see abortion clinics in Junior and Senior High Schools. Pro-lifers..... are you happy now!? The Republican Party will never become a strong political presence unless they become more inclusive of their Moderate base.

Bush, and company, and the Democrats, allowed the sub-prime mess to happen, allowed our schools to further deteriorate, allowed our criminal justice system to continue to get worse, allowed worker benefits to rot, and allowed executives to bleed companies out of hundreds of millions of dollars, while, at the same time, cutting worker health care and retirement benefits. It's a real mess, isn't it? And..... it angers me. Our big beautiful nation of freedom and democracy is being allowed to deteriorate year after year. It ANGERS ME!!!

Now that the Democrats are firmly in control, can we really expect them to get us out of messes, both domestic and foreign, for which they were also responsible?!

Obama is a brilliant man. He is much smarter than either Bush or McCain. The question, in my mind, is he really as radical and socialist as he seems, or did he use his associations and socialist promises to achieve his political goals. I think that Obama will moderate, and try to be more inclusive. If he does, then we are probably looking at eight years of a Democrat lock on government, because I don't envision the Republican Party being inclusive of anyone but religious fundamentalists.
