my complaint is that it goes through the caltrain tracks which also go through every quaint downtown on the peninsula as well as residential. I guess you don't know much about HSR and the environmental damage but basically, if you are within a .25-.5 from the tracks and a train goes by, there is a ROARRRRRRR and the ground shakes. Thats going to be the restaurant environment in Mtn View and Palo Alto with this thing going by (that doesn't stop there). I think the opponents did a poor job of pointing this out to the voters. Caltrain is built on residential land. HSR otoh, is like an airplane. If your house or favorite restaurant or company office bldg is near the tracks.... you now live near an airplane hanger.

The alternative route was through Altamont where the windmills are, which would have been fine with me.

I actually don't think HSR will ever be built on the peninsula because it is the subject of way too many environmental lawsuits.
