That's what the Supreme Court justices do nearly every single decision, too. As you know, there is a majority opinion of those who agree, and a minority opinion of those who disagree with the idea that the Constitution means what the majority says.

It shouldn't be a surprise that laymen on this board, even a few lawyers? would not agree on what the Constitution says when there is such a wide difference of opinion even among Constitutional scholars. If that weren't true, there there wouldn't be such a big deal made out of the selection of new Justices.

I doubt many on this board confuse the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution; but I don't doubt that most do not have a particularly strong, or even weak, understanding of the bulk of it.

I don't doubt that many in the general public have no clue, and maybe even a majority.
