the implications for schools, churches and children

Thats where gay marraige matters. The handfuls of couples calling themselvs married, "being" married are irrelevant. Gays are only 2-3% of the population, and the gays who want to get married are a very small percent of that group. So gays who would ever get married are maybe 0.1% of the population.

Whats significant is that in order to "protect" this 0.1%, the cultural Marxists and gay activists get a justification to bludgeon churches, schools, and individuals - to totally remake society. Eventually it would mean every church losing tax exemption and being pushed out of providing social services (adoption services, rehabilitation of prisoners, homeless, everything), every child provided moral thought control in school beginning as early as they can manage (why they have all those childrens books on the subject).
