Samsung Selects Analog Devices' Ad20msp910 ADSL Chipset For Next-generation Switching System
Upgrade to Samsung's ATM Switches Ensures Interoperability in Wide and Local Area Networks
Analog Devices, Inc. announced that Samsung Electronics Ltd., a leading supplier of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switching systems and other telecommunication systems, will use the AD20msp9l0 ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) chipset to develop next-generation products. "Using ADI's chipset, Samsung's new products will enable carriers to displace more switching functions from central offices to remote terminals and give users greater advantage to adopt new wide-area digital services, such as video conferencing and video downloading," said Russ Johnsen, Vice President and General Manager of Analog Devices' Communications Division. "As an early adopter of the AD20msp910, Samsung now has a standards-based roadmap to deliver CPE (customer premises equipment) that complements the plans of both DSLAM (digital subscriber line access multiplexer) and telecommunications equipment providers."
Telephone companies and Internet service providers using Samsung's products can begin to deliver on the promise of ADSL technology, which converts ordinary telephone wire into broadband (multimedia) communication 'pipelines.' The AD20msp910 allows Samsung to bring a true standards-based ATM packet-switching solution to market later this year at a price point that end users can afford. It virtually guarantees that operation within the high-speed telecommunications network is seamless.
"The AD20msp9l0 gives us state-of-the-art signal processing power based on a standard signal processing protocol," said Samsung's Heemin Kwon, Vice President and General Manager of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. This ensures that Samsung's ATM switches are fully compliant with interoperability standards as defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI T1.413), recognized by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI TR238) and endorsed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITUG.adsl).
Cooperatively developed with software and technology partner Aware Inc., the AD20msp910 is based upon the ANSI standard DMT (Discrete Multi-Tone) technology. This complete solution has the capability to push the speed of data transmission over existing copper to 8 Mbps - 60 times faster than ISDN and over 200 times faster than inferior 33.6 kbps voice-channel modems.
The AD20msp910 chipset combines all the functions and essential software required to implement a complete ADSL solution. It is a five-device chipset that integrates a DMT co-processor, analog front end, line driver, DSP-based host processor & interface/framer and is bundled with Aware's data pump firmware and additional software to provide a full protocol stack for data control and management. Analog Devices and Aware additionally offer complete reference designs, OEM modules, ADSL access routers for homes and businesses, training, and technical support from applications teams throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
