One of the things I found surprising about this election was how little the American people cared about the opinion of the troops in the war zone. We heard very few reports of polling from military members, or interviews from Baghdad etc.

Seems to me those willing to put their life on the line, should be given more of a hearing from the media. Pundits and critics who were sitting in the safety of America, and parents who had no one in harms way, were given far more time to criticize the war than those who really had something at stake.

I hope Barack Obama makes a real effort to reach out to military members. Thus far, his efforts in this regard have been severely wanting. First and foremost he will be Commander in Chief and the country is fighting terrorists with troops in harms way. Both he and Biden have zero military experience and members of the service know it.

I would hate to see thousands of well trained and dedicated people get out of the service because he's going to be sworn in like they did when Clinton was inaugurated. We can't afford the loss.

I hope Colin Powell is doing more than cheering the color of Obama's skin and giving him real advice in that area. No one in the military cares about skin color. What they care about is a straight talking Commander in Chief who cares about the troops, keeps them motivate to endure the sacrifices necessary, and works with Congress to provide the best equipment in the world.

I would advise Obama to visit the troops and begin a serious education in understanding the military he will command.
