Mega income was taxed heavily but with loopholes you could drive a truck through, and with massive incentive to use those loopholes (even if it decreased your pre-tax income by half you still come out ahead if you can avoid paying 90%)

And generally the 50s where so massively wealthier than the 20s and the 30s that even if the rich had a smaller percentage they had much more in terms of absolute wealth.
