EE Times Europe: What areas in your R&D program can you discuss?

Andr: Besides the projects already mentioned with respect to silicon carbide and power LEDs, we are investing in FRAM. The FRAM initiative aims to integrate this non-volatile memory into custom and standard LSI circuits. The key advantage here is that by embedding FRAM into the logic we can achieve a 70 percent saving in compute times by removing the lag between CPU and memory. Boot time is almost immediate and power consumption of the overall circuit is reduced. The technology is mature but expensive, which is why we will be offering it as a part of an LSI that fulfills a particular market need.
