Agreed - if he is so proud of his independence, enough to flaunt it to Dems by campaigning for McCain, the Dems owe him nothing, certainly not one of the few chairmanships available for a major committee.

That expression on Joe's face when he spoke after the meeting was bewilderment. He must genuinely not have expected to be called on the carpet like that.
