Family and personal responsibility are of utmost importance to me, and to everyone I know.

I think it's bizarre that anyone might think they have the lock on family, responsibility or values. While we all have values, not ALL our values are equally deserving of being enforced by the state, and I'd argue that those of us with values that include or encourage bigotry probably shouldn't be allowed to press the levers of government in order to get the state to enforce our values. That, to me, is the final question. Should your values be mandated by the state? If they take away someone else's rights just because you are "uncomfortable" with actions that really hurt no one else, you can take your values home, and try to stomp them in to your children, but keep your hands off the state and federal government.
