Isn't a proposition like Prop 8 at it's core an effort by a group of people to impose their belief that the definition of marriage be expanded? It seems to me that we have dueling belief systems with EACH side trying to impose their definition of certain moral issues on the other. The difference I see is that the proponents of gay marriage aren't actively trying to force everyone else into one. (Unless I've missed a subtext here <g>). As I see it, if gay marriage is legal no one is harmed, forced to marry, not to marry etc. I'd be interested to hear if anyone can show otherwise. If it's illegal then gays are rendered unable to marry (and also told that they're less than human, at least in terms of rights). So where an action does no harm, and a proscription does do harm or is at least hurtful, why keep that proscription?
