Re: "With everything going against him, McCain did as well as he could."

(In my book, he exceeded expectations by coming within a month or so of pulling a win out.)

Re: "I enjoyed Palin as a person. She was refreshing and certainly would have brought change to Washington."

(And I'm sure that she would have rapidly learned the names of the three countries in NAFTA. <g> But those actuaries who ran the numbers on McCain and said that the V.P. pick would have about one-in-seven odds of assuming the Presidency in McCain's first term gave me some pause....)

Re: "I did think he made a poor choice. There were certainly more qualified people to choose from."

'More qualified'... sure.

But I (disagreeing with Pomp on this point) doubt that any of the other leading candidates (with possible exception of Huckabee) would have actually helped the McCain ticket grow any stronger electorally.

For example, polling showed Romney to be one of the LEAST attractive candidates for Independents (so a ticket with him on it might have lost even *more* states)... and I doubt that many of the other candidates could have brought the vitality or immediate boost in contributions that the Palin pick did.
