My bro-in-law lived the first two decades of his life in Philly. He's one of the kindest, most thoughtful persons you could ever meet, BUT similar childhood and young adult experiences as yours motivated him, immediately upon graduation, to move to a more rural setting.

Leads one to ponder whether the conditions of congested urban living - crowded neighborhoods, crime, heavy traffic, noise - make for an unhealthy environment that exacerbates racial tensions?

Even neighborhoods with a homogeneous population experience stress under crowded living conditions.

It's the preferred social structure for doing business - plentiful supply of easily available workers - which is the primary reason cities have grown ever larger through the ages. But is it the healthiest atmosphere for humans?
