As I see it, if gay marriage is legal no one is harmed, forced to marry, not to marry etc. I'd be interested to hear if anyone can show otherwise. If it's illegal then gays are rendered unable to marry (and also told that they're less than human, at least in terms of rights).
So where an action does no harm, and a proscription does do harm or is at least hurtful, why keep that proscription?

I understand your argument and rationale and accept that you would vote in a way that reflects that. I have a different rationale and thus will most likely always vote against any initiative that asks me to legitimize adultery, fornication, homosexuality and bestiality.

It's just this simple. It doesn't mean I think someone else is less than human or want to hurt anybody, and I get a little annoyed when you make such a leap of judgment. It doesn't mean that I'm hoping to force you to live or believe the way I do either. Just hoping you respect that I believe differently.

All it means is that I prefer the traditional legal definition of marriage be upheld and not overturned. It seems to me that it's the side you represent that's the aggressor and trying to force an issue. Yet it's my side that's always accused of trying to force a belief system on other people. We're trying to preserve a belief system, not neccessarily expand it. It's your side that's always pushing to turn things over, don't you think? At any rate, this is the way I see it and it can be mildly irritating at times.
