The country tilted clearly left after a continuous barrage of insults and indignities laid on George Bush. Much of that stuck only because of his ridiculous speech patterns. It made him an easy target and made people feel insecure.

Couple that with foolish people like Hannity and Limbaugh who preached the Dems could never be elected again after 2004 and you had great fodder for the revitalization of the Dem party.

Over confidence and arrogance lead to the downfall of the party. Just as the same will happen with the Dems now.

Like a pendulum ? No, only in one respect. A pendulum swings right and then left equally from a fixed point.

In USA politics it also swings equally from a fixed point, except that fixed point is dragged to the left more and more with each full swing.

Now that gives the more actual effect of a lever on a fulcrum rather than a pendulum.

Long ago the country discovered they could vote themselves portions of the treasury.
Obama started his campaign with a promise to give everyone 1,000 dollars. That was like a piece of shiny metal dragged in from of a school of fish. The promises got deeper and more rich as the campaign picked up speed.

The promise to increase "earned income credit" dramatically caught the eye of many. In that scenario a woman or man with 2 children and without a spouse would pay no taxes as usual but would get net more than two times a single childless person's
income making the same wage.

That discourages marriage and encourages a couple with four kids to get divorced or never marry. Each claiming head of household and claiming two children they double their income or better. A permanent voting block that does well by doing less and children encouraged to make babies, never marry and work at McDonald's for the good life.

Anyway..........words.....just words...
