As for my accepting a vote that prevented me from attending my church or maybe any church, I wouldn't like it, of course, but I would adjust.

That's the first place we differ; I would defend to the death your right to go to church no matter what the majority thought, because you should have that freedom as a human being. And I say that as someone who would quite happily see all churches disappear, if it didn't happen by legislation.

somehow legislating a way of life for me that 'forced' me to live a life of sin over virtue.

There is no "forcing" in giving adults the right to do something or enter into a contract of their own free will. You want to shut off the opportunity for them to make that choice. You want social control over social laissez-faire not because their conduct harms you, but because it offends you, and you want to substitute your moral judgment for theirs.

Also, remember that like most social conservatives, I've already had to adjust to losing things I liked and thought were beneficial to society as a whole.

Yes, lots of social controls that contradicted what most thought were basic human freedoms were scrapped. Homophobic bias will end up on the same scrap heap in our lifetimes, like race bias and gender bias and disability bias did too.

And if someone wants to reinstate school prayer, let them push to amend the US Constitution, a very difficult process where a simple majority can't impose their will on everyone else. Which is how it should be when it comes to basic human rights.

Enjoy the last vestiges of social control while you can. Because you will see them drop away one by one as Rambi's sons and my niece and nephew become the next generation in power and dump the old prejudices once and for all. Prop 8 just barely passed - think it will make it through the next round of voting in 5-10 years?
