Wayne, I sincerely hope you're right on this, because keepering does have the potential to be used on A LOT of platter substrate, and could therefore have some impact on Ampex's profits for however long fixed-site storage remains "hard platter" based. It of course remains to be worked out whether keepering brings sufficient coercivity to the platter coatings to improve performance WRT cost, and whether other technologies (IBM's MR heads) might yield improvements more cost effectively. I am no expert, but if I were a hard drive component mfr., I'd be looking at all sorts of alternatives.
On another tack, I also read the job post in another way- that there will NOT be an announcement of a "deal", that there will only be tight-lipped business-as-usual, so as not to unduly influence the pace of subsequent deals.
Remember, above all though, that our company is not a "one -trick-pony", and I would like to hear some exploration of the other parts of Ampex's technology portfolio. |
