I think it caused a sea change overnight. I see the difference in the kids I teach. They still don't totally believe it happened- it's that big for them. They really didn't believe a black man could become president- and why would they? 200+ years of white faces. Why would they believe what they haven't seen? Why would they believe the "religion" of "anyone can be president" when it has been made manifestly clear to us that "anyone" could not be- until now. It's huge. And it will just get better, imo. You heard it from me early, and I'll say it again.
