I know, you said implicit. There is an implicit guarantee for other financial institutions which didn't work very well for Lehman. Since there was no explicit guarantee, it could have happened in the same way for Fannie and Freddie. Right, free speech does not mean 'you can say whatever you wish to say under any and all conditions.' There is a public good that trumps your ability to say what you like. Lobbying is not expressing your political ideas. It is the purchasing of favors from public officials. There are plenty of limits on money. For example, unless you are Elliot Spitzer, it is usually illegal to purchase sex. No, one isn't discriminating against smaller parties, you are providing funds on the basis of number of people in said parties. You are against that, why? It isn't like the Peace and Freedom or Libertarian parties are raising that much money today anyway. Your chicken statement is still loopy. You are again treating your personal opinion as if it were fact. You are saying that there is no way it would be effective. Says who and why do they say so?
