Uhhhhh.....I don't think my first take was either. I clearly identified it within the context of a 'day of rest'.

Actually, I've never even thought of Sunday closings as designed to enforce moral standards, although I guess the closing of liquor stores fits, and interestingly that restriction is apparently still enforced in most states. To enforce moral standards, it seems like there would have been laws to somehow force people to do something moral on that day...something more than napping or having family fun.

After reading the Wiki definition, though, maybe this explains why you and Rambi took such immediate, chest-heaving offense to my lamenting the loss of Sunday blue laws.
