I'm not so sure that's true. Drafting people into the military puts them in the position of having to kill and/or die for their country. It pulls them out of their homes and forces them to spend years doing something they haven't chosen to do.

Drafting them into community service for a strictly limited amount is not the same thing.

I also think we might want to look at what Obama is actually proposing before deciding it's a bad idea.
